Dear Fam,
First, we owe you an apology. It’s been over a month since our last post, and we are not proud of it. Life got overwhelmingly hectic, and while we believe in balance and planning, sometimes the best intentions don’t align with reality. We deeply regret the silence and are incredibly grateful for your patience and continued support. Thank you for being here, reading, and staying subscribed. We appreciate you more than words can express.
As we step into the thick of the holiday season, we recognize that this time of year can be a double-edged sword. While the holidays are often associated with joy, togetherness, and celebration, they can also bring stress, sadness, and a sense of emotional overwhelm. Whether it’s the pressure to meet expectations, the reminder of loved ones no longer with us, or the anxiety of preparing for a new year, the emotional weight can be heavy.
The Power of Tragic Optimism
During challenging times, it’s tempting to turn to toxic positivity—the idea that we must always “look on the bright side” and suppress difficult feelings. However, denying our pain only amplifies it. Instead, let’s embrace the concept of tragic optimism, a philosophy that acknowledges life’s hardships while finding meaning and growth within them. It’s about holding space for both sorrow and hope, recognizing that struggles are part of what makes life meaningful.
By leaning into tragic optimism this holiday season, we can:
Accept Our Feelings: Give yourself permission to feel your emotions, whether it’s joy, grief, or anything in between. Suppressing your feelings won’t make them disappear—acknowledging them will.
Find Gratitude in Small Things: Gratitude doesn’t mean ignoring pain. It’s about appreciating what’s still good in your life despite challenges.
Stay Connected: Reach out to loved ones or communities where you feel supported. Authentic conversations can be healing, especially when you share both your joys and your struggles.
Set Realistic Expectations: The holidays don’t have to be perfect. Focus on what truly matters to you and let go of the rest.
Tips for a Calm and Intentional Holiday Season
To help you navigate this time of year with intention and calm, consider these practices:
Pause and Reflect: Take moments to breathe, meditate, or journal. Reflect on the past year, not just on what went wrong but on what you learned and how you grew.
Prioritize What Matters: Choose a few meaningful traditions or goals instead of trying to do it all.
Set Boundaries: Say no to events or obligations that feel draining. Your time and energy are precious.
Make Space for Rest: The holidays can be busy, but rest is essential. Prioritize sleep, downtime, and activities that rejuvenate you.
Looking Ahead to the New Year
As we prepare to close out this year, let’s use this time to reflect on what truly matters. What habits, relationships, or goals no longer serve you? What changes can you make to align your life more closely with your values? Instead of sweeping resolutions, consider small, intentional shifts that will bring meaning and joy to your days.
Wishing You Peace and Joy
Thank you again for being part of this community. We hope this post resonates with you and reminds you that you’re not alone in navigating the complexities of this season.
Wishing you a holiday season filled with moments of peace, reflection, and connection. May the coming year bring growth, meaning, and joy to your life.
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
With gratitude,
Kim /
